Look at the shot. Guess the aperture, shutter speed and ISO.

How to play

Each round has 5 photos. For each one, set the three dials to what you think the photographer used, then lock in.

  • Aperture (f-stop): small numbers like f/1.4 make a blurry background with round bokeh. Big numbers like f/16 keep everything sharp.
  • Shutter speed: fast speeds like 1/2000 freeze motion. Slow speeds like 2s turn moving water and car lights into streaks.
  • ISO: low ISO (100) is clean. High ISO (6400+) adds speckled grain, mostly in the shadows.
  • All three together decide how bright the photo is, so think about how much light was in the scene.

You score up to 100 points per setting. You lose points for every stop you're off. You get zero at 4 stops off on Beginner, 3 on Intermediate and 2½ on Expert.

Every photo is a real photo: public-domain or CC0 shots from Wikimedia Commons, mixed with my own photos. The answers come from the camera's own EXIF data. After each guess you see who took the photo, with a link to the source for Commons photos.
